Full Detail on Every Credential
What each credential is, why it matters to you, and how to verify it.
Ontario Residential Contractor License
Licensed to perform residential construction work across the Province of Ontario.
Ontario does not have a single province-wide contractor's licence for general residential work, but contractors who pull building permits, perform structural work, and run a registered business must comply with the Construction Lien Act, Ontario Building Code (O. Reg. 332/12), and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Buildoreno is registered as a corporation in Ontario, maintains a current Master Business License, and complies with all provincial requirements for residential construction businesses. We can provide our corporation number and tax registration on request.
Proof Documentation
Business registration documents and corporation profile available on request.
Commercial General Liability Insurance — $5M
$5 million in liability coverage for property damage and bodily injury on every project.
We carry $5,000,000 in commercial general liability insurance through a major Canadian insurer. This protects you, your property, and your neighbours' property from any damage during construction — accidental impacts to plumbing or electrical, water damage from a roof tear-off, fire risk during welding or torch work, and bodily injury risks on or off your property. Most residential contractors in the GTA carry $2M minimum; we carry $5M because our scope (underpinning, structural work, roofing) involves higher-risk activities. A certificate of insurance is provided to every client before contract signing.
Proof Documentation
Certificate of Insurance (COI) provided on every project, naming you as additional insured if requested.
WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) Coverage
Every worker is WSIB-covered for workplace injury — protects you from liability.
WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) is Ontario's mandatory workplace injury insurance system. Every Buildoreno employee and every subcontractor we engage is covered under WSIB. This is critical for homeowners: if a contractor without WSIB coverage is injured on your property, you can be held personally liable for medical costs, lost wages, and permanent disability claims — potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars. Always demand a WSIB Clearance Certificate before letting any contractor on your property. Buildoreno provides current WSIB Clearance Certificates with every contract.
Proof Documentation
Current WSIB Clearance Certificate (CAD format) provided before any work begins.
Engineer-Supervised Structural Work
All underpinning, additions, and structural work is designed by licensed Ontario structural engineers.
For any work that alters a building's structural system — underpinning, bench footing, foundation repair, second-storey additions, load-bearing wall removal, structural beam installation — we engage licensed Ontario Professional Engineers (P.Eng.) to design, stamp drawings, and supervise execution. The engineer's stamp is required by every GTA municipality for building permit issuance and is critical for resale value, home insurance coverage, and structural warranty validity. The engineer remains your point of contact for any structural questions after the project closes.
Proof Documentation
Stamped engineering drawings provided as part of every structural project. Engineering firm contact information provided.
Building Permits Pulled in Every Municipality
We pull and close permits in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, and every GTA municipality where we work.
Working without a permit is illegal under the Ontario Building Code, voids your home insurance, and creates major problems at resale. Buildoreno pulls building permits for every project requiring one — roofing replacements (in some municipalities), structural alterations, additions, basement apartments, and underpinning. We submit the permit application, coordinate municipal inspections at each required stage, and obtain final permit closure documentation that we provide to you for your records. The permit number, inspection records, and close-out are critical documentation for your home's future resale.
Proof Documentation
Permit application, permit number, inspection records, and final closure documentation provided for every permitted project.
Manufacturer Certifications — Metal Roofing
Certified installers for major metal roofing manufacturers — required for full manufacturer warranty coverage.
Metal roofing manufacturers (Vicwest, Ideal Roofing, Metal Sales, Westman Steel) require certified installer credentials before they will honour their material warranties on installed product. Buildoreno's roofing team holds current manufacturer certifications for the metal roofing products we install, which means you receive the full manufacturer warranty (typically 30–50 years on metal) in addition to our 10-year workmanship warranty. Without manufacturer certification, you would receive only a basic limited warranty even if the product itself is excellent.
Proof Documentation
Manufacturer certification documentation provided. Manufacturer warranty registered in your name at project completion.
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Credentials
Before signing any contract, request three documents from us: (1) Certificate of Insurance from our insurer naming the policy limits and effective dates, (2) WSIB Clearance Certificate showing our current standing with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and (3) Our corporation profile from the Ontario business registry. We provide all three by email within one business day of request, and we encourage you to call our insurance broker and WSIB directly to verify authenticity. Any contractor who refuses to provide these documents — or who claims they're 'not needed' — should be disqualified immediately.
Residential construction involves real risks: water damage during a roof tear-off, fire risk during torch-down installation, accidental damage to plumbing or electrical, debris striking neighbouring property, and worker injuries. If your contractor is not properly insured, you can be held personally liable for damages — and your home insurance may not cover claims arising from uninsured contractor work. With Buildoreno's $5M coverage, any damages during construction are covered by our policy, not yours. We name you as additional insured on the policy on request for added protection.
WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) is Ontario's mandatory workplace injury insurance for construction workers. If a worker without WSIB coverage is injured on your property, you can be held personally liable for medical costs, lost wages, and permanent disability claims — easily $100,000+ for a serious injury. WSIB Clearance Certificates are free to obtain (contractors request them through the WSIB online portal) and show whether a contractor is in good standing. Demand one before any work begins. Buildoreno provides current certificates with every contract automatically.
Almost any structural alteration, addition, basement apartment conversion, or major renovation requires a building permit. For roofing, requirements vary by municipality — Toronto generally does not require permits for re-roofing (same material), but most other GTA cities require permits for any roof replacement. Buildoreno handles the entire permit process: assessment of permit requirements, application submission, coordination of municipal inspections at each stage, and final permit closure. The permit fee is itemized in your quote. We never recommend skipping a permit — it voids insurance, creates resale problems, and can trigger retroactive permit orders at significant cost.
Buildoreno offers 5–10 year workmanship warranties depending on the service category. Roofing carries a 10-year workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer's material warranty (transferred to you in writing). Underpinning carries a 10-year structural warranty backed by the supervising engineer. Landscaping carries a 5-year hardscape warranty. If anything fails during the warranty period due to our workmanship, we return and fix it at no cost. We've been operating for 25+ years specifically because we answer the phone after the cheque clears.
Honestly, yes — every contractor specializes. We are not Master Electricians or licensed Plumbers or HVAC technicians. For projects requiring those trades, we engage licensed subcontractors with their own ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) and TSSA (gas/plumbing) certifications, and we coordinate the relevant inspections. We are also not a registered Tarion builder — Tarion registration is required for new home construction (new builds), not for renovations or additions to existing homes. If your project requires new home construction, you need a Tarion-registered builder.
