Semi-Detached Underpinning in Riverdale

About this project

Underpinning semi-detached homes requires extra care due to the shared party wall. This Riverdale semi had a basement with 6'2" ceilings that the owners wanted to convert into living space. We worked closely with a structural engineer to design an underpinning sequence that would not affect the neighbouring property. The project required continuous monitoring and communication with the neighbour throughout.

Scope of work

• Structural engineering for party wall considerations
• Sequenced underpinning away from party wall
• Lowered floor by 24 inches
• New concrete slab with radiant heat rough-in
• Interior drainage system
• Foundation crack repair and waterproofing

Results

• Increased ceiling height from 6'2" to 8'2"
