    Installation

    Exterior systems involve excavation to the footing, membrane application, drainage board, and weeping tile. Interior systems involve cutting the perimeter slab, installing weeping tile, sump pit and pump, and restoring the floor. Crack injection is completed in a single visit.

    We test the system thoroughly and provide warranty documentation. Interior sump systems include battery backup specification for power outages — critical during GTA storms when you need the system most.

Honest answers

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered

Exterior waterproofing is the gold standard — it stops water before it contacts the foundation. However, it requires excavation around the house, which is expensive and disruptive. Interior systems are less invasive and effective for managing water that reaches the foundation. Many homes benefit from both: exterior membrane plus interior sump for redundancy.

Rain-dependent leaks usually indicate surface water issues — improper grading, short downspout extensions, or window well drainage problems. These are often the easiest and least expensive to fix. If the basement leaks during dry spells too, groundwater pressure is more likely the cause.

For interior waterproofing systems, yes — a sump pump is the discharge mechanism for the weeping tile system. For exterior waterproofing with proper drainage to storm sewer, a sump pump may not be needed. We recommend sump pumps as insurance regardless — they provide peace of mind during extreme weather.

Exterior waterproofing membranes last 25+ years. Interior weeping tile systems last indefinitely (the pipe doesn't degrade), though sump pumps should be replaced every 7–10 years. Crack injections with flexible polyurethane are permanent for that specific crack, though new cracks can develop elsewhere.
